Mouzalas admits thousands of immigrants may become trapped in Greece

He said that there is a great possibility of EU countries closing their borders

Deputy Minister of Migration Policy Giannis Mouzalas stated that from those who enter Greece through Turkey 50% are illegal immigrants and 50% are refugees, while two months ago the ratio was 80% refugees and 20% illegal immigrants.

Mr. Mouzalas said that there is a great possibility of EU closing the borders and this is one reason that people keep on arriving in Greece, while the second reason is the human trafficking networks which still exist in Turkey.

Speaking to SKAI Mr. Mouzalas said that the immigrants and refugees have three options when arriving in Greece: seeking asylum, realizing that there is no future here and requesting repatriation and being forced to repatriate. The third option is quite difficult to happen because there are countries like Pakistan that it does not cooperate.

According to Mr. Mouzalas Greece ‘has no practical proof that Turkey is trying to stop traffickers”.

He also said that there is a great possibility EU countries closing their borders and refugees and migrants already in Greece to get stuck here.
