Panagiotopoulos’ sudden meeting with Akar in Brussels

In order to reduce tensions & minimize the possibility of a crisis new discussions were agreed on the adoption of military Confidence Building Measures

The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, had a meeting today, Wednesday, March 16, 2022, with his Turkish counterpart, Mr. Hulusi Akar, on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the NATO Ministry of Defense in Brussels.

The meeting stressed the importance of reducing tensions and consolidating a security climate in the Eastern Mediterranean, based on the rules of international law and the principle of good neighborliness.

In this context, it was agreed to hold a meeting soon to discuss the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs). The meeting comes just a few days after the lunch that the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, had with the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in Constantinople.
