The Cycladic isle of Naxos is hosting its 2nd Annual Mountain Bike Race on October 26. The technically challenging 22-kilometer route takes cyclists of both genders through the island’s classic and Byzantine monuments as well as other island highlights. There is also a shorter 13.5-kilometer course for young adults. The race begins and ends at the traditional village of Sagri, listed as a protected settlement located 11 kilometers away from Naxos town.
The route travels through winding paths to rich mountainous terrains and green valleys. Sightseeing highlights include the 6th-century temple of Demetra and the 17th-century of Timios Stavros Monastery.
