Russian arms manufacturers see “blow-up” in sales

The Russian government has more than doubled its military budget between 2004 and 2013

Sales of major Russian arms companies have increased significantly over the last two years, thanks to the policy that calls for high military arms expenditure on Moscow’s part. It is worth mentioning that in other countries, defense budgets are being reduced, according to SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute).

“The significance increase in sales of Russian arms manufacturers in both 2012 and 2013 is due to incessant investments in military equipment by the Russian government in the 2000s to a large extent”, said a SIPRI researched.

The sales of major Russian companies in the sector rose by 20% in 2013. Between 2004 and 2013, Russian has more than doubled its military budget, which is the third largest in the world, according to SIPRI.

However, due to lack of reliable data, SIPRI’s study does not include chinese companies from this category who, however, benefit from the second largest military budget in the world.

SIPRI, first instituted in 1966 and funded by the Swedish state, specializes in research on conflict, military budgets and equipment, and disarmament.
