Spanish politician resigns over Greece

The socialists in Greece and Spain take sides with Troika

Beatriz Talegon is a young woman who is a member of the Spanish socialist party (PSOE). So far there is nothing extraordinary about this. Except when there is a politician who acts according to their conscience and principles, even if it means abandoning their political party, it is something that grabs our attention. Yesterday, Talegon made news when she decided to resign from her party as a protest to its ‘heartless’ stance on the plight of the Greek people. Her facebook account was inundated with messages of gratitude and thanks by Greeks and other Europeans. Talking to Athens News Agency (ANA) Talegon said she reached her decision to leave her party because it showed little solidarity to the Greek people. She pointed out that the Greek socialist party (PASOK), as well as the Spanish socialists of PSOE had proven through their actions over the last years that they did not stand by the Greek society that is suffering. “They are taking the side of the Troika”, she added. “That is the reason that I can no longer be part of a party that is responsible and guilty for so much hardship and all these terrible conditions”, said Talegon.
