SYRIZA leader Tsipras about to strike a deal with DIMAR head Kouvelis

Not everyone in DIMAR’s parliamentary group is favorably disposed towards the idea

Main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras and Democratic Left (DIMAR) head Fotis Kouvelis have taken yet another step towards cooperation, by starting to communicate directly with one another on this issue.

According to sources, Mr. Kouvelis admitted on Monday evening to DIMAR party members and MPs that during the last few days, he spoke many times over the phone with the leader of the main opposition. Their conversations were mainly focused on the recent political developments and the possibility of cooperation between the two parties.

This prospect has been on the table since last summer and the two sides are now reportedly close to an agreement. However, not everyone in DIMAR’s parliamentary group is favorably disposed towards the idea of forming an alliance with SYRIZA.

Three deputies of the party, namely Thomas Psyrras, Niki Founta and Nikos Tsoukalis have responded positively to Prime Minister Antonis Samaras proposal of political consensus and they might decide to vote for Mr. Dimas today, or on the third and most crucial round of Presidential elections next Monday.
