Newly elected Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met earlier Monday with the Russian ambassador in Greece Andrey Maslov.

During the meeting the Russian envoy handed Tsipras a congratulatory  letter on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Furthermore, the need to strengthen the Greek-Russian relations in various fields, including at the international level, in order to contribute to peace and stability in the region, was stressed.
