Amphipolis: Pebbled floor came to light

In the center and in front of the entrance a pebbled floor has been disclosed consisting of rectangular and square shapes, surrounded by black and white diamond shapes

New photos were released by the Ministry of Culture of the new findings of the archaeological site at Amphipolis.

The more the archaeological surveys continuous, the more are the new surprising findings uncovered from the Tomb castes.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Culture, “the excavations in the tomb caste of Amphipolis are continued , while the last piece of the wall sealing the front of the burial monument to have been removed, revealing the continuity of the mosaic floor.

In the center and in front of the entrance a pebbled floor has been disclosed , consisting of rectangular and square shapes, surrounded by black and white diamond shapes.

At the bottom of the facade appears in fresco film of blue color, which is visible at the side walls as well.

The removal of soil from the atrium continues in about two meters width from the wall of the entrance.

The interior is still covered of soil, which will be removed with special attention in the coming days.

Systematically maintenance is also performed for fixing both the front of the monument and the interior of the disclosed space .

Today the installation of a temporary roof covering the outside of the monument has been completed.

Finally, under the direction of Mr. K.. Peristeri a interdisciplinary team consisting of specialists in civil engineering, architectural, geotechnical, surveying, maintenance and geologist, has been created which will provide the necessary technical support and work required to ensure the monuments safety.

New press release will be issued with the progress of revelation of the monument.
