A blast was reported at Bayrampaşa metro station on the European side of Istanbul. As a result of the explosion, the operation of trains has stopped. Initial reports stated that the explosion had been caused by a power transformer and that one person had been killed, however these early reports were negated.

Bayrampasa mayer Atilla Aydiner said that the explosion hit he industrial and residential area near the height of peak rush hour.

An Istanbul police source said that evidence of a small hand-made bomb had been found outside the entrance of the metro station, whereas other reports point to a bomb placed in a van.

Ambulances are at the site and five people are reportedly injured.
