“Greek Expectations”: An English author writes about orgies at monastery of Halki

Frances Mayes  says that the characters and incidents included in her book are products of her imagination

Eight residents of Halki claim financial compensation of 800,000 euros for damages by submitting a lawsuit at the First Instance Court of Rhodes against the English author!

The author, Frances Mayes, has “set up a fire” on the island as her book with the title “Greek Expectations” talks about orgies in a monastery referring also to specific persons.

The author is accused of libel and has been called to testify.

The residents say that the book includes “false and libelous content”, stressing that the aim of the author is to gain easily money and fame.

However, the author, claims that she wrote the book using fictional characters and incidents without disclosing the name of the place and stressed that she has made revisions to parts of the book which could be misinterpreted by readers.
