These maps show the happiest countries in the world (Infographs)

With World Happiness Day swiftly coming up we thought we’d bring you some happy news

If you live in a depressing part of the world (a city that takes all your hard-earned cash for example) you’re probably desperate for an escape of some sort – one to the happiest country on Earth, maybe?

With World Happiness Day swiftly coming up we thought we’d bring you some happy news.

According to the Happy Planet Index (HPI), Costa Rica is the happiest country on Earth, followed by Vietnam, Colombia and Belize!

The wonderfully happy maps, created by the awesome peeps at MoveHub, show the happiness level for each country across our big blue planet. So, how do they calculate it all? The clever clogs at HPI determine how happy we are based on ‘global data on life expectancy, experienced well-being and Ecological Footprint.’ Basically it’s an ‘efficiency measure’, ranking countries on ‘how many long and happy lives they produce per unit of environmental input.’

In case you were wondering, the USA, many African nations and Russia were the saddest places in the index.
