Newly elected president of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker announced on Wednesday that he appointed Margaritis Schinas as spokesperson of the European Commission.
Margaritis Schinas is head of the Athens office of Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs. He served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Bureau of European Policy Advisers by Commission President José Manuel Barroso.
Mr. Schinas holds an MSc from the London School of Economics, a Diploma of Advanced European Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges and a Degree in Law from the University of Thessaloniki.
