An earthquake achieving 7.4 on the Richter scale took place at 21.51 local time in an area 106 km. South-Southeast of El Salvador, according to the American Geodynamic Observatory.

Neighboring Nicaragua’s Institute of Geological Surveys stated that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Fonseca Gulf, between Nicaragua and El Salvador, at a depth of 26km.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning center issued a warning for possible tsunami waves along the Nicaraguan coast, the Honduras and El Salvador but, later, withdrew said warning.

San Miguel mayor in El Salvador stated on his Twitter account that a man was killed when an electricity pole fell on him. El Salvador emergency services have no information pertaining to serious damages after the strong 7.4 Earthquake. However, they advise people on the coasts to move towards the mainland. The earthquake was felt in the Honduras and Costa Rica.
