The European Central Bank governor, Mario Draghi, stopped any ideas that Greek opposition party SYRIZA and Spanish party Podemos have to “print” fresh money in order to cover european financial needs and financing the attempt to return to positive growth rates.
The ECB is in no way able to implement monetary financing measures, ie funding sates, according to the governor. When asked on what his answers are to political parties’ questions, like SYRIZA and Podemos, on the subject of countries and their debts, the ECB president was perfectly clear.
“I should make it clear that I do not know exactly what proposals they have submitted. We have examined all quantitative easing measures that the ECB can take. Among them is the purchase of government bonds on the open market. But if they want financing of states by the ECB, it cannot be done. To have something like this done, circumstances should change, which is something we do not consider necessary.
