A Greek state entity known by exotic-sounding acronym of OPEKEPE appears to be the first “victim” of a measure ordering all state-affiliated entities to transfer their reserves to the Bank of Greece, as a scheduled 15-day payroll advance wasn’t made this week.

The government was quick to point to a glitch in the TAXIS tax bureau system as behind the non-payment, promising that the money would appear in employees’ accounts on Friday evening.

OPEKEPE, which stands for Greek Payment Authority of Common Agricultural Policy (C.A.P.) Aid Schemes, had 4.9 million euros in cash reserves transferred, after an order by the ministry of rural development and food, its supervisory agency.

According to protothema.gr reports, as well as charges by the main opposition New Democracy party, the decision to seize the money came on May 11 by the relevant alternate minister, Vangelis Apostolou.

The finance ministry added on Friday that the non-payment wasn’t its fault, but was due to the tax bureau system.
