The travel guide FlightNetwork, one of the largest and most influential guides in Canada, has ranked the Museum of Archimedes in Ancient Olympia as the second best out of a list of the top 10 ‘hidden’ museums of Europe, whole-heartedly recommending that its readers pay it a visit.
The Museum of Archimedes, a thematic science and technology museum devoted to the most important mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer and inventor of the ancient world, was included in a list of 10 original and alternative museums found in various European countries, among them Norway, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Portugal and The Netherlands. It constitutes an alternative and extremely interesting proposal for those who wish to learn about and admire the technology of ancient Greece.
The museum displays inventions designed by the Syracuse-born scientist that have been reconstructed in the greatest possible detail, accompanied by audiovisual material, photos and bibliography, while several of the exhibits are also interactive.
