UPDATE: According to newer and the latest data the bombing of the hospital was a misfire of a Palestinian rocket that was launched from Gaza and fell in a small parking outside the hospital.

There is no reliable proof whatsoever that there were any casualties from the incident, contrary to initial information that were mentioning about up to 500 people killed.

“There’s broken glass everywhere. There are people looking for shelter. Some parts of the hospital are on fire. I don’t know if it’s just the emergency room… There’s definitely a fire in the operating rooms… Part of the roof has collapsed.”

With these words, surgeon Ghassan Abu Sita describes to the BBC the chaos that prevailed at the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza, shortly after the explosion that caused hundreds of deaths. And he confirms what the Palestinians trapped in Gaza say, that “there is no place to hide from the bombs”.

The Palestinian Minister of Health describes scenes of indescribable horror: “Ambulance crews are still removing human limbs from the victims who are scattered in the hospital”, stressing that “the number of the victims and injuries exceeds the capacity of medical teams and ambulances. Doctors are operating on the ground and in the corridors, many of them without anaesthesia, and a large number of injured people are still waiting for operations as medical teams try to save their lives in the intensive care unit”.

Dr. Al Kudra, in a statement early this morning, said that so far the tragic toll “has risen to 212 martyrs, including 36 women, 61 children and 16 elderly people. Additionally, there are 1,400 injured, including 400 children and 270 women, due to the brutal shelling of Gaza City so far”.
