Albania is in turmoil -again- following the new unacceptable action of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, who not only refused to answer a journalist’s questions but pushed her face to make her leave.
The recipient of this unprecedented action was journalist Ambròsia Meta, who asked about an investment plan on the island of Sazan.
“The Prime Minister’s refusal and avoidance of a specific answer was accompanied by intimidating language and a violation of ethics, even a violation of the journalist’s physical integrity”, said the Albanian Journalists’ Union in a statement.
Media outlets in the country speak of a new record of threats and blackmail from the Prime Minister against every free voice.
The action of the Albanian Prime Minister has also been condemned by international organizations, with Women In Journalism posting the video of the Albanian Prime Minister’s gesture on social media.
#Albania: Women Press Freedom denounces PM Edi Rama’s aggression towards #AmbroziaMeta. It is unacceptable to push a reporter. Not the first time the leader has shown contempt toward critical press. We stand with Meta & demand Rama apologizes & treats journalists with respect. pic.twitter.com/nvYqI6BByD

The international organization advocating for the rights of women and LGBTQ+ journalists, “Women Press Freedom,” also denounced the aggression of the Albanian Prime Minister, noting that “it is unacceptable to push a journalist”.
“This is not the first time he has shown contempt for the critical press. We stand by Meta and demand that Rama apologize and treat journalists with respect”, the organization said.
