Dune 2 surpasses $700 million mark, becomes 2024’s top-grossing film worldwide

Epic Sci-Fi Sequel Leads Global Box Office, Sets New Records

Newsroom April 22 03:19

The box office continues to grow for “Dune: Part Two,” which is nearing $700 million worldwide.

Director Dennis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic has grossed $276 million in North America and $419 million overseas, bringing its worldwide tally to $695.8 million after eight weeks of release.

Dune: Part Two | Official Trailer 2

This is an impressive benchmark in post-COVID-19 periods, as only five films in 2023, eight in 2022 and five in 2021 managed to surpass the $700 million mark. It’s worth noting that Denis Villeneuve’s first film Dune, released in 2021, had grossed $431 million worldwide.

Currently, Dune 2 is the highest grossing film of 2024 at the domestic and global box office. Aside from the U.S. and Canada, the biggest markets are the U.K. ($48.8 million), China ($48.5 million), France ($42.6 million), Germany ($39.7 million) and Australia ($22.5 million).
