According to the results of the Open Doors 2024 survey, as published annually by the Institute of International Education (IIE), a record number of American students choosing Greece as a study abroad destination.
Specifically, the number of American students who chose to study in Greece in the 2022/3 academic year increased by almost 34% over the previous year (from 4,484 in 2021/2 to more than 6,000 students in 2022/3). Greece remains in the top ten destinations for study abroad for US students, attracting an increasing number of students seeking educational opportunities outside the US In 2018, Greece was ranked 17th, highlighting its upward trajectory as a top destination for US students in recent years.
At the same time, the number of Greek students choosing the United States for their studies is also increasing, with a total of 2,561 Greek students studying in American academic institutions in the academic year 2023/24, also an increase compared to the previous year.
“The United States is investing in Greece’s future and we are proud that our educational ties continue to expand. International education strengthens our countries’ ties, strengthens our economies and deepens the relationships between our peoples,” said US Ambassador to Greece, George Tsunis.
