Stefanos Kasselakis will present the key principles of his party’s program and its name today at 12 noon at the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation
Today, Stefanos Kasselakis will proceed with the inaugural manifesto of his new political party, where he is expected to present the main principles of his program and, most importantly, the party’s name. The event will take place at 12 noon at the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation.
Kasselakis is expected to unveil the primary, programmatic principles of his new political proposal, after which he will sign. Following this, the founding document will be signed by independent MPs who will be present, as well as all members and friends of the former President of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance. For this reason, Kasselakis is expected to head to the offices of his new party in Tavros after the ceremony, where those wishing to sign the founding declaration of the new political party will be able to do so.
According to information, Kasselakis’ new party will be “patriotic,” positioned in the progressive spectrum, and will also advocate for direct democracy, emphasizing interaction between the leadership and the grassroots.
However, much attention is focused on the political figures attending the founding declaration ceremony, particularly on whether other MPs will show up—those who might be contemplating leaving or who have already left SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance. Notably absent from today’s event is Petros Pappas, the MP from Kilkis, who disagreed with the recent practices of SYRIZA and, while not intending to join Kasselakis’ new party or its future parliamentary group, has not rushed into making his political decisions. He is reportedly determined to continue his parliamentary duties while engaging with the public.
In addition to the people present, the logo of the new political party and its accompanying color palette will also be missing from today’s ceremony, as the vote on the name of the new party concluded only late last night, and the final result was handed over to Stefanos Kasselakis.
According to his team, the vote for the party’s name used the Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) system.
The Process:
Voters chose up to three options, with the first being their most preferred choice, followed by a second and third choice in case the first one wasn’t selected. Once voting was completed, the counting occurred in the following seconds. The choice that received more than 50% of the votes was considered the winner. If no name received over 50%, rounds of elimination began. In each round, the name with the fewest votes was eliminated. The votes from those who chose this name as their first option would automatically transfer to their second choice, and if necessary, to their third choice.
This process continues until a name garners more than 50% of the votes. The final result emerges within 15 rounds, with only two names remaining in the 14th round, and the winner is announced in the 15th round based on the percentage they received.
The proposed names were:
- Alma Dimokratias (Leap of Democracy)
- Avrio (Tomorrow)
- Dimokratiko Komma (Democratic Party)
- Dynamis Dimokratias (Power of Democracy)
- Elliniko Oneiro (Greek Dream)
- Emeis (Us)
