Anti-oil activists “strike again” with a slogan at Darwin’s grave

Two women aged 66 and 77 were involved in the operation, who were later arrested

Newsroom January 14 06:19

Members of Just Stop Oil have once again made an appearance, this time inside Westminster Abbey where they wrote a slogan on the grave of Charles Darwin.

Two people used orange spray paint and wrote “1.5 is dead” alluding to the recent announcement that the 1.5 degree Celsius rise has been exceeded compared to 19th century levels.

2 degrees Celsius is considered the threshold above which the effects of climate change will be irreversible. 2024 was confirmed to be the first to exceed the important 1.5 degree limit, but also the warmest year ever.

The action, Just Stop Oil said, involved two women aged 66 and 77 who were later arrested.

An Abbey spokesman said there would be no permanent damage to the grave.
