The weather will remain wintery over the next few days, with temperatures having taken a nosedive of at least 6 degrees since yesterday. According to meteorologists, we might even see snowfall in the mountainous areas of Attica.
As noted in a post by EMY’s director, Thodoris Kolydas, temperatures will stay below seasonal averages until at least mid-month, with rain mainly affecting eastern and southern regions.
“The Eastern European anticyclone is preventing the movement of low-pressure systems from the Central Mediterranean towards our region,” the meteorologist pointed out.

Light, local showers are expected in Eastern Thessaly, Eastern Central Greece, Evia, the Sporades, Halkidiki, parts of the Peloponnese, and Crete. By evening, rain will also reach the Ionian Islands. Athens:
Expect increased cloud cover with a chance of light, local showers. Light snowfall is expected in the mountains, and during the early morning hours, a few snowflakes might even reach semi-mountainous areas in the north and northwest. Winds will be northeasterly at 4-5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort in the east. Temperatures will range from 5°C to 9-10°C.
Thessaloniki:
Intermittent cloudiness is expected. Winds will be variable at 2-3 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 2°C to 8°C.

Light snowfall will occur in the mainland mountains as well as in the mountains of Evia and Crete.

- West: Easterly at 4-6 Beaufort
- East: Northerly at 5-7 Beaufort, locally reaching 8 Beaufort in the southern Aegean
Temperatures will remain stable, staying below seasonal norms.
- Northern mainland & northeastern Aegean islands: 8-9°C, locally 10°C
- Other areas: 11-13°C, reaching 14-15°C in the western mainland, Dodecanese, and Crete

- West: Easterly at 4-6 Beaufort, reaching 7 Beaufort in the southern Ionian
- East: Northerly at 5-7 Beaufort, locally up to 8 Beaufort in the Aegean, with a slight weakening expected from midday Sunday onward
Temperatures will remain stable and below normal for the season. Frost will form in mainland areas during the morning and night.
