The project is financed from Public Investment Programme (PIP) funds and concerns the removal of debris and other waste from both the stream beds and from paved culverts, bridges, and narrow points, to release their cross-section for the unobstructed flow of rainwater.

Work is already being carried out in streams in all three municipalities, while the intervention points are determined by the Technical Works Directorate of the Regional Unit of Eastern Attica, by the requests of the affected municipalities.

In a statement, the deputy regional governor of Eastern Attica Vicky Kavallari said that “flood protection is an absolute and top priority for the Region and the regional governor Nikos Hardalias. The cleaning of streams is carried out throughout the year in all streams, with priority in places where there is a greater risk. Finally, the deputy regional governor referred to the integrated Civil Protection Plan already announced by the regional governor, which, among other things, includes the implementation of 53 major flood protection projects and a fire protection project, which are being tendered in the first half of 2025 to be implemented to a significant extent by the end of 2028.
