A week of national mourning for the death of Pope Francis has been declared by the Italian government.

At the same time, the celebrations to mark the anniversary of the country’s liberation from fascism and Nazism will take place this year on April 25, in a much more limited way than in the past.

The Meloni government has allocated 5 million euros for the reception of pilgrims and extraordinary security measures ahead of the late pontiff’s funeral, which will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. local time.

On the same day, no football matches of the Italian league will be played.

Finally, to provide assistance to pilgrims and guarantee the safety of the faithful and officials who will flock to the Eternal City, in addition to the police and carabinieri, the Army, with the Civil Protection, have been mobilized. Specially trained divers have already begun to check the Tiber area, which is near the Vatican.
