The Vlachopanos family’s story from Bartholomeo, Ilia, is profoundly tragic, as they have lost both of their children in a heart-wrenching span of just three years.
On Easter Sunday, 27-year-old Thodoris Vlachopanos lost control of his motorcycle under currently unclear circumstances and crashed violently into the stairs of a single-family home, resulting in fatal injuries.
This afternoon, his devastated parents will say their final goodbye.
In November 2022, a silver alert was issued for the family’s daughter, Marianna Vlachopanou, after she went missing from Polygyros, Halkidiki.
Four days later, the lifeless body of the 31-year-old woman was discovered by volunteer rescuers just 100 meters from her friend’s house, where she had been staying. Initial evidence from the investigation indicated that Marianna had fallen from a height of two stories onto the terrace of the mezzanine.
According to the volunteers, her body was found charred, and findings from the Greek police (ELAS) revealed lesions on her face likely caused by fire.
One of the scenarios seriously considered by investigators at the time was that she had been doused with a flammable liquid, set on fire, and then fell into the void.
Reports from that time also indicated that a handwritten note from the unfortunate woman was found, revealing themes of erotic frustration.
