The majority of the Parliamentary Ethics Committee voted against the request to lift the immunity of the 14 New Democracy MPs who participated in the Triandopoulos inquiry at a meeting held on Tuesday morning.
New Democracy voted in favor of rejecting the request. PASOK, SYRIZA, KKE, and New Left declared “present”, while Hellenic Solution, NIKI, and Eleftherias Party voted in favour.
It should be noted that this is the first time that immunity is being requested to be lifted for acts related exclusively to parliamentary duties.
The decision of the Ethics Committee is of a recommendatory and non-binding nature, with final decisions to be taken next week by the Plenary.
The request to waive parliamentary immunity was submitted following the 10-4-2025 lawsuit filed by Ms. Maria Karystianou, for the allegedly committed offences of (a) breach of duty (Article 259 of the Criminal Code), (b) abuse of authority (Article 239 of the Criminal Code) and (c) treason (Article 134 of the Criminal Code), because these MPs “voted for and signed the 04-04-2025 Conclusion on the prosecution of Christos Triantaopoulos”.
The 14 MPs are:
1. Panagis Kappatos
2. Maria Antoniou
3. Georgios Vrettakos
4. Angeliki Delikari
5. Athanasios Zembilis
6. Konstantina Karampatsoli
