New details are emerging about the accident in Los Angeles where a car crashed into a crowd, injuring 30 people ( 7 of whom are in critical condition).

As the Los Angeles Police Department said in an official statement, bystanders allegedly grabbed the driver, pulled him from the car and shot him.

More specifically, the police department described the suspect who shot the driver as “a Hispanic male, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and possibly armed with a silver handgun.” The man fled the scene on foot.

Images from the scene from photographers and social media show debris strewn across the street as surrounding areas were cordoned off and emergency response teams arrived.

Los Angeles police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
