A Ukrainian sniper has achieved a world record shot by taking out two Russian soldiers from a distance of 4 kilometers, according to the Ukrainian military.
The shots was fired by a member of the special unit “Pryvyd” or “Ghost” near the town of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region last Thursday, August 14, and was recorded on video, which was published by military analyst Yuri Butusov.
According to the New York Post, citing local media, the shots was fired with a Ukrainian-made 14.5 mm caliber “Alligator” rifle and was guided with the help of artificial intelligence and drones.
The new 4km performance is now regarded as the longest shooting distance in the history of warfare. It surpassed the previous record also achieved by a Ukrainian sniper in 2023. Back then, a 58-year-old veteran of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) had shot a Russian soldier from a distance of 3,800 meters using the Lord of the Horizon rifle.
Earlier, in 2017, a member of Joint Task Force 2 of the Canadian Armed Forces had set a record distance of 3,540 meters in Afghanistan.
The “Alligator” rifle is a 14.5 mm caliber weapon with a magazine and an initial projectile velocity ranging from 980 to 1,000 meters per second. In 2021, the Kharkiv-based manufacturer XADO-Holding had announced that its range was up to 2 kilometers and that it was designed primarily for destroying equipment rather than targeting soldiers.
