The accident occurred when Sabancı, his wife, and their two children were traveling by boat from Leipsoi to a restaurant on Leros. The vessel crashed into rocks, leaving Sabancı with severe injuries, including a ruptured spleen. He underwent multiple surgeries and spent several days in intensive care.

Two years later, Sabancı decided to donate 5.6 million Turkish lira (about €115,000) to Leros Hospital, according to lerosnews.gr. The donation has been accepted by the hospital administration.

“You saved our lives,” Sabancı said when announcing his donation, as reported by sigmalive.com.

Photos of the speedboat and the transfer of the injured to the hospital were also released.
