Manhunt for the perpetrator of the double murder at the campsite of Finikounda – The chronicle of the crime

The victims are the 70-year-old owner of the campsite and the 60-year-old foreman of the business - The perpetrator and the victims knew each other

Newsroom October 6 09:17

Police have launched a manhunt to identify and arrest the perpetrator of the double killing in Messinia. Authorities were called to a campsite in Finikunda yesterday shortly after 8:30 p.m. when two dead bodies were found.

One of the two victims was the 70-year-old Greek owner of the business. The other victim was of Albanian origin, about 60 years old, and worked for the first one as a caretaker at the campsite.

According to protothema.gr, residents reported to the police officers who arrived at the scene that the perpetrator was a young man who allegedly approached the two people and shot them at close range.

According to MessiniaLive, the suspect entered the campsite reception area with his face covered and shot the 70-year-old man, who was there at the time, in cold blood, fatally wounding him. The crime took place in front of his friend, who attempted to flee, with the gunman shooting and killing him as well.

Immediately afterwards the gunman fled the scene, probably on a motorbike, witnesses said. Police were alerted by bystanders and were called to the scene of the shocking incident, with the two men dead and bleeding in the reception area. It is suspected that the gun used by the gunman was a shotgun.

Police officers from the Messinia Crime Investigation and Detection Sub-Division are collecting all the evidence to get to the perpetrator of the double crime, and according to reports, it appears that the perpetrator and the victims knew each other.

It is worth noting that about 15-20 days ago, the victim (the owner of the camping site) had reported a shooting and an attempted shooting against him to the authorities; however, in another business he maintains inside the village of Finikounda.

According to MessiniaLive’s exclusive information, the serious incident between the two had occurred in the summer, with the 70-year-old man then being shot in the face with an air rifle, but without any follow-up.
