Giorgos Papavasiliou resigned on Saturday, just one day after being named head of the office of PASOK President Nikos Androulakis,
It will be recalled that in his social media posts in 2020, he had posted Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, as well as Grigoris Dimitriadis.
Specifically, Mr Papavasiliou in November 2020 and on the occasion of incidents of violence at universities, wrote: “Exceptional Mitsotakis, for the fascist parasite of universities with a leftist mask.”
George Papavassiliou’s statement reads as follows:
From 1974 until today, I have been a consistent and unmoving member of PASOK, supporting all its Presidents.
I have never distanced myself from the struggle of our party to regain its broad social and political boundaries by responding to the demand for political change. A struggle that now corresponds to the citizens’ demand for a change of course and the defeat of New Democracy in the next elections.
The attempt by some circles to make parapolitics, politics is handily lost.
For it is understood that my 2 comments 5 years ago do not mean a general recognition of a Prime Minister and a government that has disproved even the most well-meaning citizens and is a leading player in corruption and unreliability, whose policies squander the opportunities of productive and creative Greece by intensifying social inequalities.
.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis has twice received the trust of the citizens. In the end, he will go down in history as the Prime Minister of wiretaps, scandals and the devaluation of democratic institutions.
Because I do not want there to be any shadow on the struggle of PASOK, I submitted my resignation, which was accepted.
I will continue to be present in the struggle for political change from whatever position I am asked.
