The Russia today spoke of “slow progress” in negotiations with the US on a plan to end the war in Ukraine, while denouncing the “malicious attempts” by some countries to derail the talks.

“We are seeing slow progress. It is accompanied by extremely ominous and malicious attempts by a group of influential countries aimed at torpedoing these efforts and derailing the diplomatic process,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said, according to Russian agencies.

Ryabkov praised US President Donald Trump‘s willingness to find “solutions that will address the root causes of the conflict and will last,” criticizing the attitude of European countries to Washington’s plan, which was unveiled about a month ago and has been negotiated ever since.

A Russian-American agreement on Ukraine “is what is feared by both our opponents in Brussels and in many European capitals who, even in their worst nightmares, cannot imagine the results we are working for,” he added.

“We will continue to move in this direction without slackening our efforts,” the Russian official concluded.

New talks on the US peace plan took place over the weekend in Florida, with separate meetings between the US delegation and the Ukrainian and Russian envoys. Although this latest round of negotiations did not lead to any significant progress, the US and Ukraine welcomed the talks, calling them “productive and constructive.”
