Accompanied by the melodies of her songs “Never Be Lost from My Life” and “Sometimes,” played on wind instruments by her musicians, Marinella was laid to rest a short while ago at Kifissia Cemetery, bringing the curtain down on a great career and a remarkable life, full of many important milestones and filled with love.

The beloved performer, who left her mark on seven entire decades of Greek music, took one final journey through Athens as her body was transferred from the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens—where the funeral service had been held earlier—to Kifissia Cemetery, chosen by her family as it is close to the home where they all lived together.

Her only daughter, Tzortzina, along with her husband and their two children, accompanied the body of their beloved mother and grandmother

There, her beloved only daughter, Tzortzina Serpiéri—who had remained constantly by her side during her illness—her two grandchildren, and her cherished sister Loula, with whom she had lived for many years, bid her a final farewell. The emotion was intense, the goodbye difficult, yet it was carried out with modesty and discretion, just as Marinella had lived her personal life.

At the burial, which the family had wished to be held privately, in addition to relatives, several artists who had close ties with Marinella were present, including Haris Alexiou and Giorgos Dalaras—who also delivered the emotional eulogies at the Cathedral—Stamatis Fassoulis, Lakis Lazopoulos, Giannis Vouros, Natassa Theodoridou, and Zeta Makrypoulia.

And so, on a sunny March afternoon, Marinella “changed skies,” crossing the threshold of eternity, leaving behind the “immortal water” of her songs and the enduring memories she created throughout her long life.
