In 2025, approximately 13,900 rape cases were recorded across Germany.
This represents a 9% increase compared to the previous year, according to a survey of all federal states conducted by the newspaper Welt am Sonntag.
The police figures confirm a trend observed for several years: the number of recorded rapes has risen from 8,106 cases in 2018 to 12,771 in 2024.
However, it remains unclear whether this increase is due to a genuine rise in the number of crimes or to greater willingness among victims to report them.
These figures refer to cases investigated by the police and do not necessarily indicate how many resulted in convictions.
Meanwhile, overall violent crime declined slightly in 2025, with 212,344 incidents compared to 217,277 in 2024.
German Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig described rape as a “heinous crime,” emphasizing that sexual violence is a serious problem with long-term consequences for victims’ lives.
Similarly, Hesse’s Interior Minister Roman Poseck stressed that the evidence of rising rape numbers must be taken seriously.
According to the authorities, the rise in reported rape cases is attributed to multiple factors.
One key reason is increased public awareness of sexual violence, which has encouraged more victims to come forward to the police.
Experts note that the “dark figure” (unreported cases) remains significant, with many incidents – particularly those occurring within the victim’s close social circle – still going unreported.
Nevertheless, the rise in reporting is viewed in part as a positive development, reflecting greater trust in the authorities.
What is, however, systematically avoided to be mentioned by the authorities, is the statistically undeniable connection between the introduction in German society through mostly illegal immigration, of people from cultures with no respect for women’s rights as they are perceived in the western world.
The government is pushing for tougher penalties, especially for severe forms of rape, such as those involving the use of drugs, gang rapes, or cases resulting in the victim’s pregnancy.
Legal experts, however, point out that in addition to harsher punishments, prevention efforts and education on respecting personal boundaries are equally crucial.
