Iran has submitted a new proposal to the United States aimed at ending the war, through Pakistani mediation, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
«The Islamic Republic delivered the text of its latest proposal on Thursday night to Pakistan, which is mediating the talks with the United States,» the agency reported, without providing further details.
Tehran’s new proposal comes at a time when negotiations between Iran and the United States appear to have reached a stalemate, with no substantial progress toward a comprehensive agreement.
The two sides had agreed to a ceasefire on April 8, but talks are continuing in an effort to reach a more permanent settlement that would ensure peace and stability in the region.
At the same time, Iran’s judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, said today that Iran remains open to dialogue with the United States, but rejected any policy that would be «imposed» through threats.
«The Islamic Republic has never avoided negotiations (…) but we will certainly not accept anyone imposing» a policy on us, Ejei said in a video broadcast on the judiciary’s Mizan Online website.
«We do not approve of war in any way, we do not want war, we do not want it to continue,» he added.
US President Donald Trump warned on Wednesday that the Iranians «had better get smart, and fast!»
Ejei stressed that Iran is «in no way prepared to renounce its principles and values in the face of this malicious enemy in order to avoid war or prevent its continuation.»
