Bookings for Greek hotels soar in 2016

US and UK tourists still the most reliable

Newsroom October 4 09:57

Greek hotels have recorded a substantial increase in bookings and revenues through their official websites for the second 4-month period of 2016. According to data released by Nelios, a company that analyses the accommodation industry, Greek hotels had a 41.5% rise in direct bookings via their websites and a 40.9% revenue increase, which demonstrates an impressive turnaround to the gloomy climate shaped last year. The significant rise can be accounted for largely due to last minute bookings, according to Nelios. Bookings from the US and the UK still hold the lion’s share in absolute numbers, with US travellers recording a 30.65% rise in the second 4-month term in 2016 compared to the respective period of 2015, while the rise is nearly 83% to the first 4 months of the current year. The bookings by Brits were also up by 19.2% over the same period, compared to last year, and 32.63% when compared to the first 4-month term of 2016. The largest increase in bookings for Greek hotels came from Germany (107.4%), Belgium (152.17%) and Italy (55.68%) when comparing the two first 4-month terms of 2015 and 2016.
