Fire in Lesvos: Vrisa and Stavros are evacuated

The fire that broke out in an forest area, shortly after 3:30 in the afternoon, in Makrisia in Ilia, is raging out of control.

In particular, the Fire Brigade is fighting a large fire that initially quickly spread to dangerous proportions.

72 firefighters with 24 vehicles and five pedestrian units have rushed to the scene, while two aircraft and a helicopter are operating from the air.

Information indicates that the fire is moving uncontrollably towards Krestena.

Specifically, the fire has entered the first houses in Skilloundia and an order has been given for a precautionary evacuation in the village of Grilos and the Frixa camping.

In fact, according to information, the firefighters have already proceeded to rescue several residents in the area while there are reports of burned houses.

Also, the big fire continues to burn in southern Lesvos, on the western front towards Vrisa, having destroyed around 13,000 hectares of forest area and crops since yesterday.

By decision of the Mayor of Western Lesbos  after a recommendation from the Fire Brigade, the settlement of Vrisa is being evacuated as a precaution.

According to the message sent by 112, residents are asked to evacuate towards Polichnito.
