Pan-Hellenic University Entrance Exams 2024: Initial Estimates for the Cutoff Scores – Key Factors Include Mathematics and Greek Composition

50% scored below average in Mathematics (2nd & 4th Field). Few scored above 15 in Greek Composition. The highest scores in Ancient Greek is between 13 to 14

Newsroom June 10 04:06

The Panhellenic Examinations 2024 end on June 12 for General High School students and on June 17 for EPAL (vocational upper secondary schools ) students, with results expected between June 28 and July 1.

Grading is in the early stages except for the Greek Composition, which is advanced. Composition and Mathematics, common to multiple fields, will determine the base variance. Informatics subjects will likely raise 4th Field admission bases.

Greek Composition scores average between 12 and 15, with few exceeding this. High difficulty in Mathematics is expected to lower the number of top scorers, with assessors indicating about 50% scored below the base.

Ancient Greek themes are demanding, resulting in low scores (best between 13 and 14), which may affect bases. Biology subjects are also tough, Latin is more challenging than last year, and Chemistry had a “trap”. Modern Greek Language and Literature were unaffected by subject copying issues.

It’s too early for conclusions in other courses. This year sees equalized degrees in some engineering schools, potentially raising their bases. Approximately 73,000 candidates compete for 68,851 Higher Education places, an increase of 277 from last year. Military school places increased by 220.

On the final exam day, GEL candidates will take History, Physics, and Economics, while EPAL candidates will take Refrigeration-Air-Conditioning Elements, Aircraft Engines, and Central Heating Design Elements.

Director of Tutoring Schools Yiannis Vafiadakis, noted difficulty in excelling in Mathematics, particularly in Forms 2 and 4, which might slightly decline. He describes the topics as expected, passable, with clear wording but challenging calculations.

This year’s Greek Composition performance is lower than last year’s, likely impacting bases. Last year, 13.87% of 1st Field candidates scored below 10, 6.02% in the 2nd Field, 7.6% in the 3rd Field, and 22.39% in the 4th Field. Similar or worse trends are expected this year, especially in Mathematics and Ancient Greek.
