Investigators from the Hellenic Police are piecing together the details of the tragic shooting incident in Markopoulo that led to the death of a three-year-old boy.
Evidence gathered so far suggests that the attackers, reportedly of Roma origin, had set up an ambush for the family. When they spotted the family’s car passing by, they approached, raised their weapons, and began firing continuously. Only one bullet, however, pierced the rear window, resulting in the fatal injury of the young boy.
Forensic police officers are conducting investigations in the area where the shooting took place.
The severity of the attack is evidenced by more than 20 shell casings from a .45 and a 9mm found at the scene of the tragedy. The most likely scenario, based on initial evidence, is that the individuals involved had previous conflicts, which escalated out of control. However, the investigation is still ongoing.
