Sweeping changes in ELAS leadership – Armed forces set the standard for crisis management

One of the four current Lieutenant Generals remains in the ranks of the Police

Newsroom January 15 03:47

Changes are on the horizon for the upper ranks of ELAS, as the retirement of three out of four current lieutenant generals—excluding Chief Dimitris Mallios—is considered a given, while the fate of the fourth remains uncertain.

According to reliable information from protothema.gr, the political leadership of the Ministry of Citizen Protection aims to implement a complete overhaul of the highest echelons, including key units such as the Attica Security Directorate. Additionally, there are plans to reduce the number of top-ranking officers, following the example set by the Armed Forces.

In this context, the possible abolition of two lieutenant general positions—those of the Northern and Southern Greece inspectors—is under consideration.

A key decision also lies in the future leadership of the Internal Affairs Directorate. Current head Panagiotis Pupouzas faces a critical juncture, as he will either be promoted or retired.
