Heraklion: The agony for the 3-year-old Angelos is increasing – Critical 48 hours for his brain function

Forensic experts have numerous findings indicating that the little boy had been abused even before the tragic Sunday

Newsroom February 1 08:29

Three-year-old Angelos continues to fight for his life as he remains hospitalized at the University General Hospital of Heraklion following the brutal torture he endured.

The weekend is considered critical for doctors, as scheduled tests will be completed to assess the condition of the child’s brain. The hospital’s director, Mr. Chalkiadakis, stated, “If there is no brain function, the person is dead.”

Forensic expert Dimitris Galenteris, speaking to CRETA TV, mentioned that the injuries to little Angelos’ head are so severe that they prevent his brain from functioning, as he has suffered ischemic necrosis of the left hemisphere.

“His other functional systems are in good condition, but if the brain doesn’t work, nothing else can coordinate. We are waiting to see how he responds to the medication,” he emphasized.

The findings leading forensic experts to conclude that the child had been abused at home, where he lived with his mother and stepfather, even before the tragic Sunday, mainly include cigarette burns in the genital area, which are at different stages of healing.

“The evidence points to injuries that occurred at different times. There are burns at various stages of healing. The head and abdominal injuries appear to be recent. Burning a child in the genital area borders on torture,” stressed Mr. Galenteris.

“A Great Prayer for Little Angelos”

“A great prayer for our little Angelos”—this is the call being made through social media by women and mothers in Crete, who are following the case with heavy hearts as the young boy fights to stay alive.

They are inviting people to gather on Sunday, February 2, at the Church of Panagia in Gazi to pray together and light a candle, hoping the child will find the strength to survive.

And while mothers and women in Crete unite in prayer for the unfortunate little boy, outrage is sparked by Facebook posts from the 26-year-old mother, just months before her son was found in the ICU, brutally abused by her and her partner. The 26-year-old mother frequently posted photos embracing her son, captioning them with statements like “A mother is one.”

Most of her posts revolved around the vital role of a mother in a child’s life and character—only for her, a short time later, to become her own child’s abuser.
