Poland – Tusk: The US has already suspended arms shipments to Ukraine via the Polish hub

The Polish prime minister stated that the "freeze" on military aid "places Ukraine, Europe, and Poland in a difficult position that must be addressed"

Newsroom March 4 04:24

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed on Tuesday, ahead of the start of the Polish cabinet meeting, reports of suspension of US military aid to Ukraine via his country’s hub.

“As you know, today, the decision to suspend US aid to Ukraine and, possibly, the beginning of the lifting of sanctions against Russia by the US side was announced. Today, we have no reason to believe that these are just words. Besides, the reports coming from the border, from our hub in Yasionka, also confirm the announcements of the US side,” Tusk said.

The Polish prime minister added that this development “puts Ukraine, Europe and Poland in a difficult situation that must be dealt with in some way.”

According to him, Poland and Europe are now facing“the biggest security challenges of the last decades,” and he recalled that a meeting was recently held in London on this issue, where most leaders agreed that defense spending, as well as aid to Ukraine, should be increased.

Tusk noted that the European Commission has also drawn up a plan to rearm Europe, which will allow for an increase in defense spending by the countries of the Union.

In this context, the head of the Polish government also noted that his country will allocate more than 7.2 billion euros from the National Recovery Plan for the country’s defense spending.

The Yasionka hub is one of the main routes for military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
