In a barrage of scathing comments directed at Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as a journalist from the news outlet New York Times, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the war in Ukraine.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, the American president described the war in Ukraine as ‘lost from day one.’

Specifically, he said that ‘with all this, there was no reason for Putin to be launching missiles into urban areas, cities, and towns in recent days,’ and accused the Russian president of ‘maybe not wanting to stop the war, just playing with me, and should be dealt with differently, through “banking measures” or “secondary sanctions.”’
‘Too many people are dying!!!’ concluded Donald Trump, while earlier in the post, he attacked his predecessors, Joe Biden and Barack Obama. ‘I have nothing to do with this stupid war, except that I early on gave Ukraine Javelins, while Obama gave them blankets. This is the war of Sleepy Joe Biden, not mine.’
Trump and Zelensky Had a ‘Constructive Discussion’
It is noted that earlier today, Donald Trump had a ‘very constructive conversation’ with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky before the funeral of Pope Francis today at the Vatican.
According to Stephen Cheung, White House Communications Director, Trump and Zelensky ‘met privately today and had a very constructive conversation.’
Zelensky’s spokesperson stated that the meeting lasted about 15 minutes and that it was agreed to have further discussions after the ceremony.
In a post on X, Volodymyr Zelensky described the meeting as good, expressed hope for a result for an unconditional ceasefire and peace, and concluded that although it was particularly symbolic, it has the potential to develop into something historic.
Trump did not spare the New York Times from his criticisms, as the American president referred to journalist Lidl Peter Baker as ‘a very biased and talentless columnist,’ who ‘followed the orders of his editor and wrote that Ukraine must regain its territories, including, I suppose, Crimea, and other ridiculous demands.’ ‘Why does this insignificant journalist not mention that it was Obama who allowed Russia to steal Crimea from Ukraine without a single shot being fired?’ he emphasized.
Finally, at an earlier point in the post, he referred to the newspaper as ‘failed.'”
