Evia: “It was strong and there was a roar, we were very frightened,” say residents – Cracks in houses (updated)

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Prokopi, Evia, where another tremor had been recorded just before 3 a.m. on Sunday

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Evia this morning. According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter was located one kilometer east of Prokopi, Evia, at a depth of approximately 15.7 kilometers. The tremors caused significant damage to homes and buildings across the region, following two successive quakes. Despite maintaining their composure, residents reported feeling very frightened due to the earthquake’s strength and the loud roar accompanying it. Many houses have developed cracks, highlighting the impact of this seismic activity.

A new seismic event exceeding 4 Richter magnitude occurred on Sunday morning in Evia, centered near Prokopi, and was felt strongly in areas of Attica.

The revised measurement from the Geodynamic Institute reported the earthquake at 4.4 Richter, located 1 kilometer east of Prokopi, Evia, with a focal depth of 15.7 kilometers.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute reported the earthquake at 4.5 Richter.

It is noteworthy that earlier, at 02:52, another seismic tremor of 4.1 magnitude was recorded in northern Evia.

Its epicenter was 3 kilometers east of Prokopi, and according to the revised data from the Geodynamic Institute, the focal depth was 14.4 kilometers.

This tremor was also felt in Attica and Fthiotida.
