French President Francois Hollande on Friday sent a “message” both to Greece and the Eurozone, following his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Paris.
Speaking on the Greek issue, in view of the Eurogroup, and having taken Greek FinMin Varoufakis’ proposal into account, the French president underlined that many talks have taken place and a solution must be found.
“We are committed to making sure that Greece’s commitments are met, but also that the will of the Greek people is adhered to”.
On her part, the German chancellor said the important improvements to the essence of the Eurogroup negotiations are needed, while she underlined that there will be a relevant vote in the Bundestag next week.
When asked of the “Trojan Horse” tactics characterization, Merkel said she does not know much about Greek mythology, and did not comment.
She asked to have more clarifications on the Greek proposal, but directed said request to the Eurozone’s Finance Ministers.
When asked to respond on a Spiegel report which sees the ECB preparing for a “Grexit”, Mr. Hollande and Mrs. Merkel responded that they wish for and are working towards Greece remaining in the euro.
