Hong Kong: Shocking images from the destructive passage of super typhoon Ragasaa – Watch video

The typhoon, dubbed the “King of Storms,” is the strongest tropical cyclone of 2025 and is expected to hit the Chinese coast later today

Newsroom September 24 03:24

Extensive destruction was caused by Typhoon Ragasaa, one of the strongest in recent years, after it struck Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines, paralyzing life along China’s southern coast and causing widespread damage to roads, hotels, and infrastructure.

In Taiwan, 14 people died in a flooded town, while 10 fatalities were reported in the Philippines. The powerful winds of Ragasaa woke Hong Kong residents in the early morning hours, according to the Associated Press, and many took to social media to describe the flooding and damage.

Strong winds tore off sections of a pedestrian bridge roof and toppled hundreds of trees across the city. A boat crashed into the shore, breaking a row of glass railings along the waterfront. Areas around some rivers and coastal roads were flooded, including bike paths and playgrounds. In many waterfront restaurants, furniture was scattered chaotically by the winds.

Shocking videos from Hong Kong show a massive wave crashing into a hotel, breaking its glass doors.

The incident occurred as Super Typhoon Ragasaa continues to sweep through Hong Kong, mainland China, and Taiwan.

The scenes unfolded at the Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel in Aberdeen, where guests were heard screaming and holding onto furniture to avoid the rushing water, which completely destroyed the interior. Some people were swept by the current and thrown to the ground.

The typhoon, called the “King of Storms,” is the strongest tropical cyclone of 2025 and is expected to hit China’s coast later today. In Taiwan, the death toll has reached 15, and 124 people are missing after a dam overflowed in Hualien County, releasing a torrent of water that caused extensive flooding.

The Hong Kong Observatory reported that Typhoon Ragasaa had maximum wind speeds near its center of approximately 195 km/h and passed about 100 kilometers south of the city.

In China, nearly two million residents evacuated their homes in Guangdong Province. Schools, businesses, and transportation services were closed in many cities, and the storm is expected to hit the coastal cities of Yangjiang and Zhanjiang tonight.

The fury of Ragasaa created waves taller than the streetlight poles along Hong Kong’s waterfront and stirred up the sea along China’s southern coast. Its destructive path had previously hit Taiwan and the Philippines, causing 10 fatalities.

In Guangdong Province, strong winds continue, while in Hong Kong, many areas were flooded, causing damage and injuries. More than 60 people required medical attention at city hospitals.
