Pay raises in the Armed Forces: How much conscripts will now receive – See who qualifies and the new amounts

The Joint Ministerial Decision has been published – Pay will now differ between conscripts serving on the border and those serving in mainland Greece

Newsroom October 16 12:45

The Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) issued by Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias and Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Athanasios Petralias was published in the Government Gazette (FEK B’ 5516/15-10-2025). The decision increases the monthly pay of conscripts and reservists fulfilling their military obligations in the Armed Forces.

The total annual cost of these increases amounts to €24 million, which will be covered through savings within the Ministry of National Defence.

Key points of the new JMD:

  • Significant pay raises for all categories of conscripts.
  • Differentiation of pay between those serving on the border and those serving in mainland Greece.
  • New pay categories for conscripts, with the abolition or merging of certain existing categories.

Specifically:

  • Conscripts currently receiving €8.80 per month will now receive €100 if serving on the border and €50 if serving in the mainland — an increase of 1,036% and 468%, respectively.
  • Conscripts who are children of large families currently receive €35, and will now receive €150 — an increase of around 330%.
  • Married or single conscripts with one child currently receive €88.04, and will now receive €150 — an increase of about 70%.
  • Married or single conscripts with two children currently receive €140.87, and will now receive €200 — an increase of about 42%.
  • Married or single conscripts with three children currently receive €234.78, and will now receive €250 — an increase of about 7%.
  • For each additional child beyond three, pay increases by €50.
  • Single conscripts orphaned by one parent currently receive €35.22, and will now receive €150 — an increase of about 326%.
  • Single conscripts orphaned by both parents currently receive €100, and will now receive €200 — a 100% increase.

The new pay structure will take effect on January 1, 2026.
