Kikilias: Solves the problem of Kythnos’ ferry connection with Piraeus

Service resumes on Friday – Sailings will take place every Friday and Sunday

Newsroom November 18 07:23

The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, announced the resumption of the Piraeus–Kythnos ferry line, which had been suspended in 2024. In an interview with Open TV, he explained that although ferry connections for this island—since it is not on an under-served route—are determined by the free market, he personally took the initiative to coordinate with a specific ferry company, which agreed, allowing a new ship to be scheduled. The new sailings will begin this Friday and will operate every Friday and Sunday, in addition to the five weekly sailings from Lavrio.

According to Kikilias, this solution will serve permanent residents, public officials, and visitors, addressing a long-standing request from the local government and the community of Kythnos.

At the same time, he noted that a tender worth €668 million for under-served ferry routes is currently underway. This four-year program will ensure service coverage for small and remote islands across Greece.
