Lefteris Petrounias Wins Silver in the Rings Final at the Baku World Cup

The Greek rings champion secured second place in Azerbaijan

Newsroom March 7 12:55

Lefteris Petrounias stepped onto the second tier of the podium at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup held in Baku, following his performance in the rings final.

Choosing to perform a routine with a difficulty score of 5.6, the same as in the qualifiers, he received a lower execution score of 8.700 compared to 8.877 in the qualifiers, giving him a total of 14.300 points. Even the 14.466 points he had scored in the qualifiers would not have been enough for victory, as Russian-born Ilia Zaika reached 14.600 points.

On the third tier of the podium was 24-year-old Japanese gymnast Kiichi Kaneta, who scored 14.233 points and narrowly defeated Azerbaijani Nikita Simonov, who had the same difficulty score but slightly lower execution, finishing with 14.133 points.

Petrounias was not the only Greek finalist, as Nikos Iliopoulos and Magdalini Tsiouri also competed—at the pommel horse and uneven bars finals, respectively—and both finished in sixth place.

Immediately after her husband’s latest major achievement, Vasiliki Milousi posted on Instagram congratulating him on his new great success.
